Oh, I feel so bad. Hubby feels awful too. Yesterday's Mass. was. torturous. Seriously! The priest giving the homily was completely monotone, had no enthusiam about the subject and it went on and on and on and on... J. said he almost fell asleep. I just got really agitated. Why bother to go to such efforts to write all that if he really doesn't care if we're listening or not. He spoke very fast and one sentence ran into the next with hardly any inflection whatsoever. He told a story about when he was a new priest at a parish in Grand Island, NY and all the work that went into new construction of the church and what it meant to the parish and the future... I don't even know where he went with it because eventually it wasn't what he was saying I heard, it was how he said it. A complete distraction. And what we feel so bad about is hes a very nice priest, genuinely friendly and warm in person. We want to listen, we try to listen, we sit up straight and give our full attention and come away with... irritation?
On a lighter note, the Little Flowers Girls Club brought up the gifts. They were all so cute, with their little pale blue skirts and sashes. My daughter went completely gaga saying "Look that the little girls! Look! I want to kiss them!" It was all I could do to keep her in the pew, she wanted to go up to the alter with them. Another year and B. will be one of them, I can hardly believe time is going so fast!
The Little Flowers is a great Catholic alternative to Girl Scouts.
And for boys there's The Blue Knights, the Catholic alternative to Boy Scouts.
