Meringue Puffs~ When Cooking is so fun, ya go a little crazy

Yesterday my husband decided to bake meringue puffs with our 8 year old son, N. when he got home from school. So they're in the kitchen working away & as usual, both turned all scientific. They needed a magnifying glass, which I'm assuming was to get a better look at the frothy peaks they whipped up. Eeesh,.... so I went hunting in N.'s toys while husband and N. checked the two junk drawers and I eventually gave up. I still don't know if they found a magnifying glass or not, I was extremely busy at that moment "ice skating" in the living room with Miss B. (she has a wonderful imagination!).
After the first batch of meringues were done baking they couldn't wait two hours for them to cool, so the meringues got eaten up by the whole family. Yep, before dinner. They're light and fluffy, not filling at all.
Dh made hamburgers for supper, using his mom's old recipe. Yummm!

Then it was right back to making meringues. J. had come home from school/track practice and was intrigued and I guess the gears started turning in all their heads during supper~ they had ideas. Soon there was a search on~ do we have more confectioners sugar and vanilla?, do we have peanut butter?, where's the baking cocoa? are these bananas ripe enough to use?

Broiled bananas atop chocolate peanut butter meringues... mmmmmm!

Finally at ~11 pm!!! ~the kitchen was officially closed up for the night. This is why when my husband says he's got an idea and wants to bake, I stear clear.
Here's the recipe:
